Advice on the Use of IgG/IgM Test for Coronavirus Testing

The world is under the grip of coronavirus. There is no medicine or cure for the disease. The pandemic has taken many precious lives across the globe and is not slowing down.

Initially, there was no testing kit that could provide fast results, but now there are IgG/IgM test kits that can tell if a person is suffering from coronavirus or not.

IgG/IgM test kits come as a response to the growing coronavirus pandemic and shortages that medical staff faces of reagents and lab-based molecular testing capacity. To facilitate testing outside of lab settings, a rapid COVID-19 testing kit is widely used. The testing kits detect proteins from the blood or serum of human antibodies, which are generated by the body in response to infection.

Also, WHO has applauded the work of test developers for responding to the needs of the population and developing the tests faster.

Out of all the rapid coronavirus tests, there is one common type of rapid diagnostic test for coronavirus testing, and that is a test that detects the presence of antibodies in the blood of those people who believed to have been infected with the coronavirus. After a person is infected with the coronavirus, the antibodies are produced over days to weeks. The intensity of antibody response is dependent on many factors such as nutritional status, age, the severity of the disease, and certain infections such as HIV that weakens the immune system.

The major benefit of the IgG/IgM test is that it produces results within minutes, and there are no chances of false negatives. False negatives are also responsible for the rise in the disease, because of false negatives; people think they are not infected from the disease and interact with others.

IgG/IgM test is used in the rapid coronavirus diagnostic test.  The test is highly accurate and is something that healthcare workers need in the time of coronavirus pandemic. IgG/IgM coronavirus testing kit produces results in less than 10 minutes.
IgG/IgM coronavirus test detects antibodies (proteins belonging to the immunoglobulin class), and it produces accurate results within minutes. To conduct the rapid coronavirus test, 10ul of specimen- whole blood, serum, plasma is needed. The testing kit has a dropper, sealed pouches, a lancet, buffer, a test cassette, and a package insert.

The very first step to initiate the testing is to collect the blood/serum/plasma sample. Place the sample to lancet or sample well. After placing the sample to sample well, add a few drops of the buffer. At this stage, one should wait for the control line to change from blue to red color. If even after 2 minutes, you see that the blood is still present in the sample well, add a drop of sample buffer to the buffer well. You will be able to see the results in less than 10 minutes. If the person has a presence of IgM antibodies in his blood, then on the kit, the line along the M will be red. Similarly, line along G will be red if there is a presence of IgM. And if both IgG/IgM is present, both lines will be red.

Rapid coronavirus testing kits are of great help for the medical staff as well as the patients. The kits provide results instantaneously, and doctors can start the required treatment at the earliest. If a person is found coronavirus positive, he should be quarantined so that he doesn't infect others.

The medical staff is over-worked and exhausted as the number of coronavirus patients keeps on increasing. Coronavirus is highly contagious, and many doctors have lost their lives while protecting others. When there were no instant coronavirus testing kits, one had to wait for a week to get the test results. During the week, the person tested posed a risk to others by going for grocery shopping and going about his daily business. And if after a week, the results came positive, it meant that the person had given infection to whoever came in contact. But with the help of rapid COVID-19 testing kits, results come within ten minutes, and there is no chance of false negatives.

Final Words

Coronavirus Diagnostic Test Kit has decreased the workload of healthcare workers and has helped them to test patients at a faster pace. With the right diagnostic, not only the person can be saved, but other people can be protected from getting infected.
